Banish muscle tightness and strain with sports massage

Sports massage therapy treats a wide range of musculo–skeletal problems – from tendonitis and frozen shoulder to sciatica and groin strain – as well as preventing the onset of injury.

It is by no means restricted to sports players and may be effectively applied to domestic and industrial injuries as well.

Sports massage therapy can significantly help a wide range of conditions including:

  • Tendonitis
  • Muscular spasm
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Tennis/golfer’s elbow
  • Groin strain
  • Shin splints
  • Work strain
  • Torn/ruptured ligaments
  • Repetitive strain
  • Sciatica
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Back pain
  • Runner’s knee
  • Postural problem

Charles Street Clinic has three sports massage therapists: Kim Weir FSMT (Assoc), LCSP (Assoc) and Angela Short MISRM, MFHT

Kim Weir FSMT (Assoc), LCSP (Assoc)and Angela Short MISRM, MFHT

Kim has worked extensively in the health and fitness industry – as a sports massage therapist and first aider in professional rugby.

Angela has over 18 years experience in the massage industry and attained Level 5 in Clinical Sports and Remedial Massage in 2011.

“Whether you are a performance-based athlete, part-time fitness enthusiast or just someone who feels stress physically from work or lifestyle factors, the soft tissue techniques involved in sport massage therapy offer an opportunity to relieve, rehabilitate and recover.”

"Each sports massage treatment varies from person to person,” says Kim, “but generally involves applying the hands to improve blood and lymph flow and to stretch muscles in order to increase their flexibility and improve elasticity."

“Treatments can include many different techniques, depending on the needs of the client,” says Angela. “Typically we use a combination of soft tissue release, neuromuscular release, myofasical release, muscle energy techniques, mobilisation and myofasical kinesiology taping.”

"Since an accident in 1993 I’ve not been able to walk and have had very little movement in my right shoulder, arm and hand. Kim has worked wonders in releasing tendons and improving muscle movement and
circulation. Thanks to her I’ve enjoyed an amazing improvement in my overall mobility."

Angela is a talented and enthusiastic sports massage practitioner who has an excellent range of skills and a can-do attitude to fix aches and pains and longer term ailments. She has sorted out my sports injuries from riding and playing hockey. She also looks at the bigger picture in terms of postural and occupational conditions - I cannot recommend her highly enough! 5 star treatment!

J Griffiths, Dorset

I've played sport all my life and have struggled with a stiff back for years. Being a sportsman and athlete, Andrew really understands how the body works and not only treats the area of pain but also gives great tips and advice about how to cure the issue. Would not hesitate in recommending Andrew to anyone who wants a brilliant sports massage.
