Ease tension by taking a more mindful approach to life

The Alexander Technique offers people of all ages and abilities a way of improving their health and wellbeing by learning how to move more mindfully through life and, as a result, learning how to eliminate harmful tension in the body.

It can be applied to all situations in everyday life and can lead to better balance, co-ordination and freedom of movement. It can increase confidence, self-awareness and provide greater control over actions. It is widely used to reduce pain as well as to improve performance in sports, music and drama, public speaking and interview techniques. It is a simple yet powerful approach that offers people the opportunity to take charge of their own learning and healing process.

Chrissy Fraser – Alexander Technique practitioner

Chrissy Fraser is the Alexander Technique practitioner at the Charles Street Clinic. She is a member of the Society of Alexander Technique Teachers (STAT), and also of the British Association of Occupational Therapists (BAOT), and she is registered with the Health & Care Professional Council (HCPC).

Chrissy has been working in Occupational Therapy since 1982 then, in 2009, she decided to compliment those skills by studying and teaching the Alexander Technique. “My passion lies in improving performance in activity by giving you the skills to become more aware of yourself.

The more awareness you develop the more you will be able to listen to the signals from your whole body and recognise the information they are giving you. It is not the activity but the state of being in activity that becomes the changing influence.”

With this new awareness, says Chrissy, people are able to learn to self-calm and to better regulate their bodies so that they can make better choices in everything they do. “With this comes empowerment and inner harmony,” she says.
